Summit Fire District History
Doney Park Fire District and Timberline-Fernwood Fire District merged in 2001 to create the Summit Fire
District. The merger was taken to the public for a vote on March 13, 2001. The merger passed by a 92% vote
from the people. At an organizational meeting on May 29, 2001 between Doney Park and Timberline-
Fernwood Fire Districts, the two boards voted for 5 out of the 8 members to form the new Summit Fire District
Board of Directors. In 2009, Fort Valley Fire District was added to the District. We serve approximately 9500
residents and protect 90 square miles.
Summit Fire District has a five person Fire Board that is elected. Each seat on the Fire Board has a term of
four years. Board meetings are held the third Tuesday of every month (unless otherwise posted). All
meetings are open to the public and you are encouraged to attend.
