Summit Fire Department

Fire departments don't succeed...people do.

SFD History

The Summit Fire District is the result of the merger between the Doney Park Fire District and the Timberline-Fernwood Fire District.  The Merger was taken to the public for a vote on March 13, 2001. At an organizational meeting on May 29, 2001 between Doney Park and Timberline-Fernwood Fire Districts, the two fire boards voted for 5 out of the 8 members to form the new Summit Fire District Board of Directors.  Dan Atkinson, Ben Fisk, William Dunlap Sr., Randy James and Rick Parker were those chosen for the new board.  Dan Atkinson was chosen as the new chairman with Rick Parker the new clerk.

There are 68 square miles that are served by the new Summit Fire District.  The district is located in the unincorporated areas of Doney Park and Timberline-Fernwood which lie just North of the City of Flagstaff, Arizona. The District has a mutual aid agreement with the Flagstaff Fire Department. The district population is almost10,000 residents and we will respond to approximately 900 emergency calls during this year.

At the present time we have 4704 registered voters.  Within our fire district we have two Coconino County Supervisory Districts, districts two and four.  Liz Archuleta is the supervisor of district two and Deb Hill is the supervisor of district four.

Cromer Elementary School is within our district located at 7200 Silver Saddle Road.  It has a student population of approximately 750 students.

Summit Fire District has three fire stations.  Station 31 is located at 6425 Cosnino Road, Station 32 is at 8905 N. Koch Field Road and Station 33 is at 6050 E. Firehouse Lane off of North Highway 89.  All three stations are manned 24 hours a day with 2-3 man crews.  We have 34 fulltime firefighters, 10 volunteers, 5 reserves 3 Battalion Chief's, 1 Fire Chief and three business office personnel.
